In this customer project, formulation data was scattered across Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and local desktop files. Previous results were difficult to find, leading to duplicate laboratory work, slower development cycles and valuable expertise sitting with individual employees rather than being shared across the organisation.
With LabV, the company's existing development processes were mapped and structured digitally. Raw materials, formulations and test results became centrally accessible, enabling the company to cut the number of iterations by approximately 50% by building on existing formulation data rather than starting from scratch.

Where construction chemicals R&D loses time
Construction chemical products, from sealants and joint compounds to protective coatings, are developed through iterative formulation cycles. R&D teams work with dozens of raw materials for each formulation while documenting production batches, material properties and test results. All while meeting certification and regulatory requirements, including ETAG guidelines, CE marking and internal testing standards.
In practice, formulation data is often fragmented. Existing raw material data is difficult to retrieve, experiments are repeated unnecessarily, and valuable expertise stays with individuals rather than the team. Historical data rarely feed back into ongoing development, which slows cycles and erodes the value of past work.

The R&D team documented experiments in Word documents and Excel spreadsheets without a consistent structure. Relevant data existed but couldn't be found when needed. Raw materials were frequently retested as a result, unnecessarily extending development cycles.

LabV was configured to reflect the team's existing way of working without disrupting established processes. Raw materials were managed alongside batch information, material properties and technical data sheets. Formulations captured raw material compositions for one-component (1K), two-component (2K) and three-component (3K) systems. Associated process parameters, testing procedures and experimental results were linked directly to each formulation. The team's existing knowledge carried over and became accessible across projects.

Starting with a specific raw material, R&D teams can immediately identify every formulation and project in which it has previously been used. Where no exact match exists, fuzzy search identifies similar formulations. Teams can compare prior developments directly and avoid redundant laboratory work.
